It can be confusing, because the US Forest Service doesn’t office use the word clearcut – meaning a logging operation where 90% or more of an area is cut down. However, they do clearcut. They primarily use terms such as “Overstory Removal” and “Shelterwood Removal” to describe clearcutting. Regardless of what you call it – a clearcut is a clearcut and is bad for forest ecology and conservation.
